day twenty-eight: get the fork

I’m so close to done on this thing, I can smell it from here. I got one shirt tail hemmed earlier, and I’ll at least get a good start on the other before I go to bed. Then it’s just shortening the sleeves and maybe opening the neckline and I’m done. Ten points for Hufflepuff. (Don’t pretend to be surprised. We all knew it.)

I think that tomorrow I’m going to get started on patterning my pants. I’ve done research, and I’ve tried to make Thorsberg trousers before. I know they didn’t have French curves and pattern paper; I’m sure that they wrapped fabric around people and patched in bits till it covered things and was comfortable, so that’s what I’m going to do.

Except I’m going to do it on a pair of sweatpants on my cutting table. I’ve been waffling about whether to make an inseam or an outseam, and I decided that if I do an outseam, I can fit in some cheeky little pockets. (Don’t tell.) I kind of want to wear these around the house this winter, so pockets would be most welcome.

I have a couple of chores to do, so I’ll finish this later, when I have some pictures. TTFN!

much, MUCH later… it’s SO close to done. I finished the hems on the bottom edges (that was a LOT of sewing), and all that’s left to do is shorten the sleeves and sew the tabs on the bottom flaps into place. An hour or two at most tomorrow and I can start patterning my pants. I’m looking forward to something new — new color at the very least! I’m really hopeful that I’ll be able to make something comfy and warm.

For now, though, I need some sleep, and my cat Bob has come to fetch me. Night, y’all.
