day twenty-seven: so. close.

I finally got the edges turned on the other side of my shirt. All that remains is for me to sew in the other sleeve, hem the bottom edges, and shorten the sleeves, and I can call it a shirt.

all pinned in place

i love that these pins are heat-resistant. it makes pressing so much easier

I have to go feed my friend’s cats — hopefully there will be time to start the sleeve when I get home.

after kitty dindin… I have the sleeve in. Remember when I said that trying to make a mitered corner while hemming my gusset was a mistake? Yeah. About that.

mistakes were made.

In case you’re not sure what you’re looking at, that is a ginormous gap where there should be a pointy bit of fabric. The fabric above my fingers and below my palm is supposed to be sewn together, and it won’t go smooth with a huge gap like that. So I adapted by positioning my front and back where it belonged and sewing the edge of the gusset accordingly.

I won’t even notice that teensy flappy bit.

i’m not going to cut it off because I don’t want the raw edges.

All that’s left to make it a functional shirt is to sew up the sides. All that’s left to make it a finished shirt is some hemming. I want to alter the neckline a wee bit, too, but that’s not a finishing criterion.

And since I just finished sewing up the side…

MY SHIRT IS ASSEMBLED.

I’m going to try it on, see whether I need to laugh or cry, and Go. To. Bed.

Pictures tomorrow. Night, y’all.
