day twenty-six: sleeve #2

I got a slow start on my C3 work tonight, except not quite — I spent a couple of hours researching trousers and hose, so I guess that was progress. I’m still trying to decide if I’m going to make hose or trousers and sewn socks. The latter is sounding good, though, and I just found out about the Skjoldehamn short socks and not only do they sound simple to make, they sound kinda comfy.

Take a look at my new shirt! The left sleeve is in and the side seam is closed. I gave it a bit of a press, and frankly, it was my first look at the right side, too.

it’s really starting to look like a garment

this is the inside.

i don’t know what this blue dots are. not sure I actually care.

this is the outside. yes, the seam is wobbly.

no, i don’t really care.

I’m trying really hard to let go of the perfectionism and just going with “this is accomplishing the goal”… though I still like my seams to look nice.

this is the outside of the four layer seam.

IT LOOKS AMAZING

I’m super-happy with it. Next up, I’m going to turn in the edges on the other side of the body. This time I’m not doing it at my mom’s dining room table, but rather on my ironing board. (I could have used Mom’s ironing board, but I was watching Henry V at the time.)

Can you see the challenge here?

This is why they tell you on the Great British Sewing Bee to read all the instructions first. I stitched the fixation seams all the way to the edges, and I didn’t leave margins to turn the edges in to sew the closing seam. I’ll have to unpick a few stitches to make room, and then sew some little tacks to hold things down.

You know what, though? It’s 12:30 in the morning. I’m tired. I’m not going to try to do this tonight. This is a thing for tomorrow. Night, y’all
