day fifty-two: actual progress

I actually got some sewing done today. I got the gusset sewn into one leg and started the other side. Excellent progress, really.

basting in the tip of the gusset was not easy

I ended up leaving the tip of the gusset loose and sewing that in from the right side. I used the brown Manx thread to sew it, and you can barely see it. You can feel it, though, as I used a knotted blanket stitch to secure it.

It was particularly important to use a good covering stitch at the “point”, because there was basically no seam allowance to turn under at that spot. Covering it with stitching will alleviate stress and help prevent fraying. At some point, I may also add a patch to support and protect the area.

it came out nice, if not perfectly smooth

Remember the buckthorn bath that I turned acidic? It still smells strongly of vinegar, and so far this is all it's done to the small skein of wool I put in.

it's a very pretty yellow. still not red.

I'm going to leave it for a few days and see if anything changes. I do have a use for it, and might dye more this color if this is all I get.

So that's today's progress. Hopefully there will be more tomorrow as I make strong push to finish them before the end-of-month check-in. After the gusset is in, I need to close up the outside seams, add the waistband, and hem the cuffs. Oh, and finish all the seams. Yay.

Bedtime now, though. Night, y'all.
