day fifty-one: plying and maybe dyeing

The first leg is almost sewn on. I switched thread from the Manx fiber to a skein of BFL that I tried to dye with buckthorn and only succeeded in turning it a very pretty golden beige. It actually looks great on the herringbone.

really pleased with how this looks

I was having issues keeping the line straight, so I tried something I saw on Facebook the other day: I drew a line on my thumbnail using an alcohol marker. Seems to have worked pretty well, though the mark rubs off fairly easily.

i just got the walnut off my thumbnail, too

I decided that the pins were pissing me off, so I basted everything together using pink thread so I could find it easily. Also I like that color.

Gotta say, that thread didn't come out the color I wanted, but it sure is a color I like.

Speaking of that, I brought home some of the liquid from the simmered buckthorn pot. I thought I might experiment with it a little, so I poured some of it out into another jar and decided to change the pH to acidic with some vinegar.

I probably poured half a cup of white vinegar into the jar, and it flipped the pH to acidic really well - when I checked it, it went from ll to probably 3.

I plied some of the teeny-weeny singles I spun last night and set the twist with my steamer.

this is an Andean plying bracelet in process

I tied a string to it to make it easy to retrieve, and dropped it into the new jar. I can't tell what it's doing just yet, but it should be interesting. It did look like it was taking on color, but it wasn't at all even. I'm going to leave it to soak overnight and see what it looks like tomorrow .

That's about it for tonight. I'm beat and dying to go to bed. Night, y'all.
