day twenty-four: a day of several parts
Today started rather earlier than I would have preferred, with a screaming headache. Excedrin took care of that, and then I lounged about playing with my iPad till about an hour ago, when I gathered my video equipment (consisting of my phone, my DJI Osmo gimbal, and a tripod), and scampered down to the shed to check my dye pots.
Okay, it was more like a saunter. Whose fantasy is this, anyway?
Rather than regale you with the tale of how that went, though, please enjoy this short film.
For my next trick, I will be working on my shirt. Stay tuned!
later… so it’s about 8pm, and I’m just now getting back to work. I have the shoulder edge of my sleeve double folded and ready to top stitch.
and because I’m extra… a mitered corner that no one will ever see.
I DID NOT LOSE AT THREAD CHICKEN
i may or may not be able to tie this off. stay tuned
I WIN
SPOILER ALERT: the mitered corner was a mistake. I don’t think it’s irredeemable, but it was a bad idea. You’ll see why. (Not today, though. Probably tomorrow. Maybe overmorrow. (Look it up.))
taking out basting as i go
Normally I’d wait till the end of the sewing to take out the basting stitches, but due to the nature of this portion of the exercise, I need to pull out the stitches as I go.
Rather than felling down the folded edge of this hem along the shoulder of the sleeve, I am stitching along the top edge, catching the folded-under raw edge as I go. If you’ve ever folded a raw edge under, you know that it’s not always right up against the fold, so I need to take out the basting stitches as I go to check the position of that raw edge.
I didn’t baste the other sleeve because things went smoothly with the pins. This is no longer the case, and I have fired the pins and replaced them with cheap labor in the form of polyester thread, which regularly lies down on the job.
And both sleeves are hemmed. I think that’s all I’ve got tonight; I’ll start sewing them in tomorrow while I’m watching the live reading of Henry V. Should be awesome: Temperance Drinkwater’s Compagnie presents Henry V
For now, I’m back to researching pants. Night y’all.
