day six: cutting
Note to self: just pull the stupid thread.
Linen has an annoying tendency to skew and bend out of true, and then despite your best efforts, you end up with a curved line, and then you have to true it up anyway.
i get better and better at pulling threads
I finally got the body piece cut out for my shirt. Had I cut out the thing right in the first place, I wouldn’t have to piece the lining, but I didn’t, and I do. Not a huge deal. I’m finishing the pieced seam a little differently than my usual. Normally I flat-fell seams, but I don’t want the bulk on the inside, so I decided to spread the seam allowances, turn them under, and fell them down. I probably don’t even need to do that, given that I could put the raw edges to the inside, but I’d rather not risk it. I’ve spent too much time repairing seams that I should have finished properly in the first place.
learn from my fail.
So the body and lining pieces are cut, and I need to piece both the linings (no big deal). I got one seam sewn but not finished tonight. Those should be done tomorrow, and I can get onto sewing the lining pieces into the body. That’s actually going to be pretty interesting, as I can sew both the front and the back lining to the outer fabric at the shoulders in one fell swoop. Then I’m going to mark the neckline, and sew the “fixation stitches” on the front and back.
so pretty
One thing that occurred to me today, is that the neckhole is a square. The underarm gussets are squares. I have to cut through the outer fabric and the front lining. I might be able to use those squares as gussets. How thrifty is that?
All of that is tomorrow’s effort though. Time to hit the sack. Night, y’all.
