day four: birthday

I didn’t get a lot done today, as it’s my birthday and I was having some trouble with my right hip(v. painful). I did manage to toddle out to the shed and take a look at the buckthorn.

I dropped a bit of wool fabric in the buckthorn yesterday.

It started out like this

I put it in a perforated zipper bag, and when I checked it today, it looked like this:

It’s a start.

We’ll see how it looks on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, I’m going to be on the lookout for pots I can use for simmering the walnuts, and re-reading the articles on dyeing with buckthorn to see what I can do to make this color a bit deeper — more red and less peach. Or at least a deeper orange.

And then my mom helped me verify some measurements, and I think I’m ready to start the shirt tomorrow. I was getting all wrapped up in the pattern of the original, and how to be true to that while making it fit me, and finally realized, during a conversation with Axel, that I was making too big of a deal out of it. Just cut the pieces and start sewing.

So I will. Tomorrow. For now, I sleeps. Night, y’all.
