day eighty-two: i feel so much better
The tunic is coming along beautifully. I learned a few things about construction from making the Viborg shirt, and I put them to work here. As a result, this tunic has gone together quicker and easier than just about any similar garment I've ever made.
I have had to resort to commercial yarn to finish the project. I ran out of hand-spun thread, and with Christmas upon us, I don't have time to make more.
I'm using Madeira Burmilana in color 3432, which is a nice chocolate brown. It's 50% wool, 50% acrylic, and I got an 1100 meter cone for $11. Obviously I'd prefer to use my hand spun, but needs must.
Anyway — look at this sleeve. How gorgeous is that?
i mean. this gusset makes me happy on a cellular level.
I think the rest of the evening will be spent sewing down seam allowances. My TV shows won't watch themselves. I'll post progress before I go to bed.
The right side of the tunic is finished. I sewed in the sleeve, spread the seam allowance over the folded seam allowance of the body panel and stitched that down, closed the side seam, then opened the seam allowance of the gore over the body panels and felled that down. Finishing the seams that way recesses the gore and sleeve “behind” the body panel, and the gusset already looks like that.
the chalk markings are almost gone
look how tidy this is
