day seventy-five: this won't take long

I started sewing my gores together last night. I probably could have updated last night's post, but nah. So far I have two of the four gores done, and truthfully, I fully expect to get them all done tonight.

What's my secret? There are two: basting (thanks, Abby Cox!) and a third hand. Basting keeps these very narrow margins from shifting (more about the seaming technique in a moment), and the third hand helps create tension to keep everything tidy. It's a freaking game changer -- I feel like I'm actually speeding up.

GAME. CHANGER.

The seaming technique I've decided to use here is from Hedeby and detailed in Die Textilfunde aus dem Haithabu, by Inga Hägg (pg. 157). Basically, you just overlap the two edges and overcast each edge. Pinning would be both annoying and painful, and the edges could shift as pins were pulled. Basting eliminates this issue, and the third hand speeds up sewing quite a lot, IMO.

Back to sewing.

It took 40 minutes worth of The Lion In Winter to sew the third gore together (not including basting). It's only 10pm; I could get the fourth gore sewn and find fabric to bind the neckline before bed. Woohoo! “Done by Boxing Day” doesn't seem quite so crazy right now.

All four gores are sewn together. I want to do the neckline next, but I have no pattern for a v-neck, and I need to find fabric to bind it with.

I found a fair few options. Which shall I choose?

I posted the pics to Facebook; we'll see what the consensus is tomorrow. For now, it's bedtime. Night, y'all.
