day forty-eight: bottoms up
Sewing together my pants has begun in earnest. Tonight I backstitched the front and back panels to the gusset, and next steps will be to cut the inseams of the legs and sew in the gusset. Really, that's sort of the last step of the basic construction, because as you sew in the gusset, you sew the top of the leg to the front and back panels.
After that, all that's left is to make and attach the waistband and belt loops (you read that right) and hem the bottom of the legs.
I was legitimately concerned that I might not have enough time to get these done before the next check in, but I actually feel like I'll be done in good time.
Because these seams have the potential to be under strain, particularly while sitting, I wanted to make them really strong. Backstitch seemed to be just the ticket.
it came out quite nice.
I don't know how much time I'll have to work tomorrow, because my mom has promised me chicken and dumplings. But I have a clear idea of where I need to go next with this project, so I fully expect to have the legs and gusset all sewn together and a good start on the waistband (at least) by the end of next week. The points of the gusset should prove interesting, but I'll manage.
I've been longing for bed for an hour, though, so that's where I'm headed. Night, y'all.
