day forty-three: spin me right round

We have reached the portion of the project where things slow down a little while I get ready to sew my pants together. I need to spin the thread, and this past spring I broke my favorite lightweight spindle by dropping a bin of fabric on it.

So I'm trying to make do with a heavier spindle, because I can't seem to find a nicely balanced 1/2 ounce spindle for less than my left leg, which I am loath to give up because not only does it seem to work better than my right, but because I spin my spindle along my left thigh.

The other problem with the spindle I'm trying to use is that it's too heavy for the thread I want to spin. I've spun hardly anything and it's already snapping. I'm going to go through my other spindles and see if I can find anything lighter, but almost all of my spindles are a full ounce. I could use the bone spindle I made for Artifacts of a Life, but it does wobble something awful.

It's really frustrating, and this is why I mourned my broken spindle as I did.

what i've made is nice, though

later. I haven't found a smaller spindle yet, but I did have a realization that made me feel like a dope. I've been so focused on the buckthorn that I utterly forgot that I have walnut. (You'd think that the faint remains of walnut dye on my thumb would remind me.)

So the next plan is this: spin up some white wool thread and toss it into the walnut bucket for twenty minutes or so. I bet it will look great. Might even try overseeing with the buckthorn.

Not tonight. Bed time is now. Night, y'all.
