day two: research
I didn’t get that much done today. Mostly it was a mad scramble to get out of my house with stuff I needed for the weekend, as I spend the weekends with my mom, who is the basis for my Quaranteam. But in and among that, I cleaned the sewing room a bit more, decided that this weekend would be at least partially spent spinning thread to sew my wool garments, and doing a little research on the pants I want to make for my outfit.
I am currently torn as to whether I want to make actual pants, short underthings like braies with long hose, or knee-length trousers and short hose that hook onto them. I think I need to synthesize the two Hilde Thunem articles that I’m using as a jumping-off spot into one understand of what happened where and when, and then make a decision. There will probably be a spreadsheet.
Right now I’m getting pretty excited about the Skjodehamn clothing, and I kind of want to delve further into these clothes. I have some articles I squirreled away in my research folders on them. They’re in Norwegian, so I’ll have to go to some pains to translate them, but the Google Translate app is surprisingly good at translating text on the fly, so I should be able to at least figure out where to find the interesting and relevant parts of the text, and then take some time to do a decent translation of those sections with my exceedingly poor Norwegian (and the Internet).
It’s getting really late, but blogging my progress is something I want to do daily, so here we are. Time for bed though, and spinning in the morning. Night, y’all.
