day thirty-one: trick or treat?
I've started patterning my pants.
it's very scientific
I decided that rather than trying to drape these on my own body, I'd pin fabric to a pair of sweatpants that fit well and go from there.
One thing that I did not expect is that I will need to make a diamond gusset in the crotch. This is fine, but yikes that's a challenge.
i said these would be kind of extra
Right now, I'm working on the front and back… gussets? Space fillers? Gussets, I guess. I think what I actually to do is baste the outset and cut open the inseam down to that gusset insertion point, then wrap the muslin around the pants to make the crotch gusset thingies.
So yeah, progress. I'm not mad at it. More later.
aaaaand later… I come over to my mom's house on Saturdays. We have dinner, I spend the night, we hang out on Sunday after she does Zoom church, it's nice. I bring stuff to work on… like the pattern for these pants. Except I forgot to bring the piece of fabric I was going to use to create the crotch and inner leg gusset(s). I guess I'm going to spin thread to sew these pants together and read my new book.
the launch is next week
So yeah, other than making a right leg to match the left leg, I'm sort of dead in the water till I go home to where my muslin lives. I'll probably baste the outseams and pin the muslins onto the sweats again, but that's about it.
And with that, I guess it's time for bed. I'll just leave you with this little teaser photo…
Night, y'all.
