day forty-one: crash and tinkle

So I got the pattern made. I was getting the fabric out to lay out the pieces, and I needed to move the extensive collection of rulers that I used to draw nice lines on the pattern pieces when I discovered exactly how close the center globe of my ceiling fan is to the floor.

the glass was really thin

I mean, I'll get it all done, but this is discouraging. Plus I cut myself, which was not fun. (I'm fine. I’ve had worse from sticking myself with a pin.)

anyway, here are most of the pattern pieces

and here is the other

I'm a little concerned that I might not have enough fabric. On the other hand, I'm kind of into the idea that I might need to piece in a different fabric - based on the finds, it would be very appropriate.

I also want to make sure I stay on grain. This herringbone is a very distinct pattern.

Here we go. Stay tuned.

My pants are cut out. I even have enough fabric left to make an apron dress, which makes me wicked happy. I love this fabric so much I can't describe it to you. I've been saving it for years.

Next up, I need to spin some thread. I have a few ounces of Manx Loaghtan fiber, which is a lovely fawn brown color that will blend beautifully with this brown herringbone. I've used it for sewing before, plus it's an ancient breed, so I'm really happy to have discovered it.

Time for bed, though. I have to get up and do stuff in the morning. Night, y'all.
